Many people that go on our Charleston fishing charter have not had the pleasure of fishing in the Charleston Harbor. The Charleston Harbor is actually an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean and is located in Charleston, South Carolina. The inlet is formed by the junction of two rivers which are the Ashley and Cooper rivers. The Morris and Moultrie Island shelter the entrance to the inlet and Charleston Harbor is part of the Intracoastal Waterway which is a recreational and commercial waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Like most river mouths that can be found in the Southeast area, the inlet is evidence of a drowned coastline which has been created by a rise in sea level in recent geologic time. The Charleston Harbor actually froze over sufficiently enough to allow ice-skating in the winter of 1784 which was the result of a volcanic outpouring at Laki in Iceland during the summer of 1783.
