Sometimes you spend a few hours, have some fishing success and head back. Sometimes it’s an off day that just turns around at the last minute. Did you bring your kids on your fishing excursion? If so, Headshaker knows that showing your kids a good time is the focus. Experienced, mature anglers know that sometimes the fish are biting, and sometimes they aren’t. But when children are on board, a catch is mandatory, or you will see some long faces. Rest assured that Capt. Leland is on the case. Whatever adjustments he must make to put a fish on that child’s hook, he will do it. Also, the younger the kids, the less patience they will have for the fishing experience, especially in the hot sun. Capt. Leland is the father of a young boy and daughter, so he knows how to keep kids occupied and entertained, which also provides a more relaxing fishing experience for dad and mom.
If you are catch-and-release angler, we will snap the photos for you. If you’re fishing for dinner, we will store your catch in our coolers and then clean, fillet and bag your fish back at the dock. Headshaker Charters strictly adheres to all Fish and Game regulations.

Other Kinds of Fishing Charters
Nearshore Fishing Charters
Nearshore fishing charters, by definition, stay close to the shore, a mile to a few miles out from Charleston. Nearshore charters often target manmade or live reefs, as well as offshore rocks and islands. Some nearshore saltwater fishing charters are trolling charters, and others are bottom-fishing charters.
Bottom Reef Fishing Charters
Bottom reef fishing charters are popular in Charleston. There are plenty of reefs in the area, both live and manmade, and reef maps are readily available. Reefs are major population centers for a variety of saltwater fish, and are generally a reliable catch. However, reeling fish in from the sharp, craggy reef requires a heavy-duty rod and reel, and lots of strong line that can withstand abrasion. Reef fishing is only for experienced skippers who know that particular saltwater reef.
Offshore Trolling, Deep Sea Fishing Charters
A typical Charleston deep sea fishing charter tows several lures behind a moving fishing boat. On these charters, anglers are often looking to catch saltwater game fish such as Billfish, Dolphin, Tuna and Wahoo. When the fish strike, the captain typically stops the boat and the fish are reeled in.

There are several Gulfstream big game fishing charters that set out from Charleston.
